Run for your own Cause
The Redditch Fun Run day, now in its fourth year, is looking to encourage even more people to get sponsored and raise money for their own charities and worthwhile causes. Taking place on Saturday 19th May from 12 noon in Arrow Valley Countryside Park, a choice of four events means there is something for everyone - the Toddle Waddle at 1.00pm for those under 3s and their families who just want a short stroll, a Mini 2k Fun Run/Walk starting at 1.15pm for those who want to stretch their legs, a 6k Fun Run/Walk at 2.00pm for those who would like a bit more of a challenge and for the more serious runner a 10k timed race at 4.00pm will finish off the day.
Dave Wilkins (now retired but still known to many as PC Dave) has run this event for the last three years and is now handing it over to Redditch YMCA to run in partnership with Redditch Borough Council.
When asked about his vision for the Fun Run, Dave replied, “I would love to see every local club and society taking part to raise funds.” Duncan Berry added, “This really is a ready-made event to enable people to raise money for anything; it could be their local football club, Beaver Pack, school or a charity."
The Toddle Waddle is free to enter – just turn up on the day. To enter the Mini 2k or Main 6k Run, each individual will need to buy a ticket costing £2 which will then be exchanged for an official race number on 19th May at the Arrow Valley Countryside Park Registration Tent. To purchase entry tickets drop into Redditch YMCA or the Arrow Valley Countryside Centre Shop. Alternatively, apply by post, sending a cheque made payable to Redditch YMCA together with a stamped addressed envelope to: Redditch Fun Run, Redditch YMCA, Church Hill Centre, Loxley Close, Redditch B98 9JG. Entry on the day is more expensive at £3.00 per individual.
